I am a director, dramaturg, and deviser based in Chicago, IL. My work explores gender performance and queer futurity using a combination of enthusiastic curiosity and in-depth analysis. Central to my practice is attentiveness to the unique dimensions of the body; grappling with what it means to perform selfhood on and offstage. What are the everyday, habitual performances we enact for ourselves and each other? Where do our bodies fit where we want them to and where do they resist?Â
In short, my practice is rooted in trans- identity and its (dis)contents.
My skillset is interdisciplinary, rooted in my background as both a performer and techie. My work is experimental, thoughtful, and concerned with the relationship between artistic practice and action. Performance is political and politics are performative, but there is a difference between community building and mutual aid.
I believe that asking the right question is often more important than having the right answer, and I love to work with those who are asking different questions than I am. Sound like you? Then...
"When great trees fall
in forests,
small things recoil into silence,
their senses
eroded beyond fear."
-Maya Angelou
